I enjoyed the Author's other book "The girl Before" and was hoping to be blown away by this book as I was by that book. This grabs the readers attention right out of the gate and doesn't let you go until literally, the last sentence. I'm only somewhat familiar with scripts (having read a few for my dad who free-lances B-movies on the side) and so I was a bit wary of this. I found myself constantly wondering what was going on, who to trust and even found myself, by part three, wondering if our narrator, Claire, was a reliable source of information.

Delaney showcases this power in his book, both through Baudelaire’s life and poetry, and through the story of the novel itself. THE SENSATIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER FROM THE INTERNATIONALLY BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE GIRL BEFORETHE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLERTHE SUNDAY TIMES BOOK OF THE MONTH'Imaginative, unusual, clever and fun' - Sunday Times'A twisty, exciting read' - Sabine Durrant, author of Lie With Me'A dark, sexy mystery' - Metro**********Claire Wright isn't who she seems. But it’s not what one would think in any way, Claire works for a law firm going undercover to catch cheating spouses since acting jobs are hard to come by for someone without a green card.

Hamstrung by the necessity of relating everything back to Baudelaire and Les Fleurs du Mal it makes it impossible to get any sense of who Claire or Patrick really are and hence begin to care about them. The police suspect he's a serial killer, with previous Baudelaire-inspired murders under his belt, ha ha. It had a unique structure and the narrative came across as sophisticated and Clair (the narrator) gives you a whole new approach to unreliable narrator.

Tony Strong has made more than thirty television commercials, including the celebrated BUPA ‘You’re Amazing, We Want You To Stay That Way ‘ campaign, and the American Express campaign. Besides the conundrum of whether Patrick Fogler is a killer, being set up or simply the obvious suspect, there’s so much I relished about this book. If, on the other hand, the author takes his or her time, and allows this shift to happen little by little over the course of, say, a hundred or so pages, it can be not only believable, but profoundly satisfying. In case you don’t know, this is the idea that, if you're going to make frog soup, you don't try to dump the live frogs into a pot of boiling water. Translations of Baudelaire’s work tend to bring some controversy, because it is incredibly difficult to capture the meaning, beauty, and horror of Baudelaire’s poems in a translation.
